Ding Tang

Ding Tang is a Student Fellow at Penn Health-Tech (PHT) and a third-year PhD candidate in Bioengineering at the University of Pennsylvania. His research focuses on developing droplet digital CRISPR-Cas13a assays for attomolar-level RNA detection of infectious pathogens, including HIV-1 and biofilm-forming bacteria.

Prior to joining Penn, Ding earned a Master of Translational Medicine degree from the UC Berkeley–UCSF joint program. He is passionate about translating nanotherapeutic and diagnostic innovations into clinically deployable platforms and exploring commercialization pathways in healthcare technology. Through the PHT Fellowship, he seeks hands-on experience integrating engineering, clinical, and venture perspectives to advance translational innovation.

Outside of his academic work, Ding is an avid marathon runner and advocate for healthy living. Since 2022, he has completed more than 70 races across the United States and has served as a brand ambassador for major events, including the 2025 Philly 10K, the 2024 Philadelphia Marathon Weekend, and the 2024 Philadelphia Distance Run.
