Scott Manaker, MD, PhD

Scott Manaker is an Attending Physician within the Pulmonary and Critical Care division and a Professor of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. Dr. Manaker previously represented the American College of Chest Physicians (CHEST) and also the American College of Physicians (ACP) at meetings of the American Medical Association (AMA) Specialty Society Relative Value Update Committee (RUC), where he now chairs the Practice Expense Subcommittee of the RUC. In the past, Dr. Manaker had been elected to the Internal Medicine rotating seat on the RUC, represented the American Thoracic Society as a specialty advisor to the AMA CPT (R) Editorial Panel, and represented the ACP on the AMA Practice Expense Advisory Committee (PEAC).

For almost 20 years, Dr. Manaker has been an active member of the Medicare Administrative Contractor Advisory Committee for Pennsylvania, currently Novitas Solutions, and he was appointed to the CMS Hospital Outpatient Panel (HOP) on Ambulatory Payment Classification (APC) Groups. He frequently lectures across the United States on documentation and reimbursement topics, including the teaching physician regulations, critical care professional services, consultation policies, basic evaluation and management coding, effective use of documentation templates and physician adoption of electronic health records, and the integration of nurse practitioners into physician practices.
